Q2 2011 Global Cleantech Venture Investments Down 33 Percent from Previous Quarter
but Exits Remain Strong in IPO and M&A Activity

Cleantech Group today released preliminary 2Q 2011 results for clean technology venture investments in North
America, Europe, China and India, totaling $1.83 billion across 161 deals. Measured by dollars invested, cleantech
venture investment fell 33 percent compared to the previous quarter ($2.75 billion) and was also 10 percent lower
than 2Q10 ($2.03 billion). The number of deals recorded in 2Q11 was 161, compared to 174 in 1Q11. Of these deals,
66 percent (106) were Series B or later rounds, accounting for 87 percent ($1.59 billion) of all money invested during
the quarter.

Global Cleantech Venture Investments Rises in Q1 2011

Cleantech Group released its preliminary Q1 2011 results for clean technology venture investments in
North America, Europe, China and India, totaling $2.57 billion across 159 companies. Measured by dollars
invested, cleantech venture investment was up by 52 percent compared to the previous quarter ($1.69 billion)
and was also 31 percent higher than the same period a year ago ($2.28 billion). Conversely, the number
of deals recorded in 1Q11 was 159, a total which is likely to be the lowest quarterly count since mid 2009,
though this tally may rise once all investors have completed reporting deals. Of these deals, 65% (104)
were follow-on rounds, accounting for 93% ($2.39 billion) of all money invested during the quarter.

Global Cleantech investing up 30% in 2010

WEF’s report Green Investing 2011: Reducing the Cost of Financing shows that clean technologies are
becoming more cost competitive due to reduced equipment costs. The report found that while over
$194bn in government stimulus funding has been pledged to date for the clean energy sector, renewable
power technologies such as solar and onshore wind already compete in some places without subsidies
due to continued reduction in costs.

Record 7.8 BUSD year for Cleantech Venture Capital in 2010

Cleantech had a record year in drawing in venture capital in 2010, with $7.8 billion invested globally,
according to a new report from the Cleantech Group. The last half of 2010 saw two consecutive quarters of
declines, however. Overall, global investing totals saw a 28 percent increase compared to 2009, making it
the highest year for investment after 2008 ($8.8 billion). The drawback in the last half of 2010 seems to reflect
some skepticism among venture capitalists on capital-intensive investments that are risky and can take years
