Harald Overholm (30) joined Sustainable Technologies Fund in 2009 as an investment director. He was previously the Fund Manager of Kaupthing Clean Technology Partners (KCTP), a $50m cleantech VC fund focused on expansion stage companies in the Nordic region, funded by Nordic institutional investors. Mr Overholm initiated the fund in 2007 as a member of Kaupthing’s division for Alternative Investments, and subsequently led the fundraising and investment activities of KCTP. Prior to that position, he was a cleantech equity research analyst at Kaupthing Capital Markets, and a member of the bank’s Global Energy Research Team.
Mr Overholm holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering of Energy Systems from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, a BSc in International Relations focused on Energy Security from the University of Stockholm, and is an alumnus of the Swedish Armed Forces Language Institute. He has experience of energy security issues from the Swedish Foreign Office, where he spent six months as an intern and an aide to the Ambassador of Sweden in Turkey.
Harald Overholm started his career before attending university, by helping to build fast-growing VC-backed companies in the ICT sector. As a 17-year-old, he joined Spray Razorfish as a project manager in Sweden and Germany, and then worked as a project manager and technical advisor at Fork Unstable Media in Germany. While at Spray Razorfish, he was one of three founding team members of the Germany office, and gained operational experience in all aspects of building a rapidly growing venture.
In addition to his position at Sustainable Technologies Fund, Mr Overholm is currently a part-time PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge (Institute for Manufacturing). As a doctoral researcher in Engineering and Management, Mr Overholm investigates the diffusion of cleantech innovations in unregulated markets, and in particular how innovative financing solutions can help mitigate the problem of high upfront costs for innovations in energy efficiency.
